A city worker was killed when a trench collapsed on him Monday afternoon in the Forest Glen neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the 40-year-old bricklayer was working on a sewer being replaced by the Chicago Dept. of Water Management near Sauganash and Keeler when the trench caved in, authorities said.
Konrad Tucharski was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he died within the hour, according to fire officials and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the Belmont Central neighborhood.
“Our sympathies and prayers are with his family and friends,” water management spokesman Gary Litherland said.
Area North detectives are investigating the death as the water department probes the cause of the collapse.
