FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, D.C. (July 29, 2016) – Terry O’Sullivan, General President of LIUNA – the Laborers’ International Union of North America – made the following statement on Secretary Clinton’s acceptance of the Democratic nomination:
Hillary Clinton is a working class champion who will lead our country to an even stronger, more secure and prosperous future. She is smart, tough, and tenacious with the vision, experience, and proven leadership our country needs.
LIUNA has had a close working relationship with Secretary Clinton throughout her entire career. The 500,000 proud, strong, and united men and women of LIUNA look forward to continuing that relationship with her in the White House as the next President of the United States.
The Democratic National Convention, unlike last week’s Republican National Convention, focused on being stronger together and moving America forward; rejecting the notion that we are weak and fearful, and embracing our ability to reach new heights and overcome divisions and differences as the greatest nation on earth.
The Democratic National Platform lays out a vision that underscores the importance of unions and the fundamental right to organize, prioritizes creating good working-class union jobs, building a 21st century infrastructure, repealing the so-called Cadillac tax, and fighting climate change with smart energy policy that keeps the lights on and energy affordable.
LIUNA members are fired up to elect Secretary Clinton and her running mate, Senator Tim Kaine, because of their firm commitment to working class, union values and their belief in a nation where hard work is rewarded and everyone has the opportunity to share in economic prosperity.
LIUNA will continue to mobilize, energize, and activate our members and their families to elect Secretary Clinton as the 45th President of the United States.
